While you are busy with high feature download managers like IDM, Orbit etc, you may not know that Microsoft itself has also a free standalone Internet Download Manager which enables you to download files simply and easily. It also makes downloading large files such as application and multimedia files quick and reliable.
Unlike other big feature rich download managers on the web, it’s don’t have much options to more with it. It was specifically designed to help people download files from Microsoft’s Web sites easily. But here nothing seems to have which will prevent you download files from other websites. Once started, the Microsoft Download Manager’s easy-to-use interface displays the status of downloads and enables you to suspend active downloads or resume downloads that have failed. The basic interface enables the user to add URL, pause, resume , delete downloads and minimize to system tray. It is furthermore possible to open the download folder a file was downloaded to.
Currently it supports only HTTP protocol. But login authentication is also supported. It seem worth use for every one and supports well on windows XP, 2008, Vista or 7.
